A Free Christian-Based Homeschool Curriculum

As semi-seasoned homeschooling parents, we know that finding the right curriculum can be a daunting task. With the many options available, choosing one that aligns with your family’s values, educational goals, and teaching style is crucial. Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool, offered at allinonehomeschool.com, is a popular choice among homeschooling families worldwide. In this review, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this free online Christian-based curriculum.

Interview With the Creator of Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool

Before we jump into the review, I wanted to share with you an “interview” I did with Lee Giles, the founder of EP. I contacted her through email, and she was kind enough to answer some questions so I could share them with you. She’s a very busy lady, and I was thankful she took the time to respond to multiple emails.

The Interview

  • Can you tell us about the inspiration behind creating AllinOneHomeschool.com? What drove you to start this platform?

LEE: It was nothing like that. We were missionaries and it was hard getting books overseas, so I started moving to online resources. I would bookmark links for my kids and write out assignments each weekend and then scrap it all and reset for the next week. Then I started putting the lessons online in the format you see now because I wanted to save my work for the next kids (I have six) and not have to recreate lessons. I did make the decision to write it in such a way that anyone could use it.

The first people to know about it are the ones who accidently found my website where I put up pictures of what my kids were doing for school just so the grandparents could see what they were doing. The Lord just took those things and made it into EP, what we call Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool. Yes, there were some long hours in between, but it did not start with me having a vision and determining to carry it out.

  • How do you ensure that the curriculum and resources provided on your website cater to the diverse needs of homeschooling families?

LEE: We are an eclectic curriculum. There are unit studies and textbooks and videos and hands-on projects and worksheets and experiments and all sorts of reading. It’s also made so that you can pick and choose the pieces that are helpful to your family without needing to use it all.

  • What sets AllinOneHomeschool.com apart from other homeschooling platforms or curricula available online?

LEE: It being free is a big one as well as it being complete. We have extras like PE/health, computer, music, art, and even things like Hebrew.

  • Could you describe the process of developing and updating the curriculum offered on your website? How do you ensure its relevance and effectiveness?

LEE: We call it the living curriculum. It is updated five or six days a week. We rely on parent reports if something has become outdated, and we also are typically yearly adding and revising whole courses.

  • How do you address concerns about the quality and rigor of homeschooling education compared to traditional schooling methods?

LEE: Your education will be what you put into it. There are kids excelling in public school and failing. The same is true for homeschooling. Homeschooling allows for a lot more freedom for kids to purse their interests which increases motivation which increases success. Homeschooling also relieves some of the pressures of school, such as bullying, freeing kids to focus on school.

  • Can you share any success stories or testimonials from families who have used AllinOneHomeschool.com? How do you measure the impact of your platform on students’ learning outcomes?

LEE: I don’t measure outcomes. Each family is unique and has different goals. Some EP kids are in college on full scholarships. Some became welders right out of high school. They are all successful. We have a big page on our site full of testimonials. My favorites are when a kid or mom had felt like a failure and had their world flipped upside down to joy through using our curriculum.

  • In what ways do you support parents who are new to homeschooling or may feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of educating their children at home?

LEE: We have over 80 Facebook groups for support and an amazing volunteer support team. We don’t offer phone support, but our team can get people answers in less than a minute sometimes! They are really amazing. Our groups are for specific locations and situations. There are groups for each grade level, state, and also for things like RV homeschooling, military families, grandparents homeschooling, Spanish speakers, and so on.

  • Looking ahead, what are your plans for the future of AllinOneHomeschool.com? Are there any new features or initiatives in the pipeline?

LEE: I don’t run the curriculum as a business. I don’t do “strategic planning.” The Lord started it and He continues it. In recent years I have been putting tons of Bible teaching on the site. That wasn’t planned but something that grew out of the pandemic and me wanting to encourage faith over fear. I don’t know what His plans are, just plan on doing them with Him!

  • As a veteran homeschool mom, what advice would you give to new homeschooling families who might be feeling overwhelmed with…everything? There are so many choices of curriculums, teaching styles, etc. It can be mind-boggling at times for new families just trying to sift through all of the information.

LEE: EP is a great place to start out homeschooling. It’s ready to go and costs nothing to just give a try. It will give you a taste of different styles of homeschooling since it is eclectic, so it can help you find what works for your family.

  • We belong to 2 homeschool co-ops, and they have both been helpful to us. How important do you feel having some sort of community for support is in creating a successful homeschool experience? Whether it is an online group, a co-op, or other types of groups, have you seen better outcomes with families that are connected with other homeschool families in some way?

LEE: Our family was isolated from other homeschoolers because we were missionaries. We were the only homeschoolers in our city. I would never say homeschoolers need to be part of a co-op or some such group. Each family is unique and needs to be themselves. Co-ops and online support groups serve a great function and can certainly be very helpful, but there can be a downside too of comparison to others or a pull to want to imitate what others are doing. One of the core values of EP is to “let it be enough.” Whatever you have decided for your family, even if it’s sending them to public school, let it be enough. We try to free families from the burden of pursuing the “perfect.” Pray, follow the Lord, and trust He’s got your family in His hands and knows what’s best for your kids.

Cons:

  • Limited Options: While Easy Peasy covers a wide range of topics, its offerings may not be sufficient for all learners. Supplemental materials may be needed for some students. But I feel this is true of every curriculum.
  • Religious Focus Not Suitable for All: While the Christian perspective may be a pro for some families, it may not align with the beliefs of others. Families of different faiths or secular backgrounds may find the religious focus of Easy Peasy to be limiting or incompatible with their educational preferences.
  • Dependency on Technology: Easy Peasy is an online curriculum that requires access to technology and the Internet. Families without reliable internet connections or adequate devices may face challenges utilizing the curriculum effectively.
  • Limited Teacher Support: While Easy Peasy provides a wealth of resources and materials, it lacks direct teacher support. Parents may need to take on the role of instructor entirely, which can be overwhelming, especially for those new to homeschooling. But the EP support groups that are available can fill in the gaps effectively for most families.

Easy Peasy All-In-One Highschool

While Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool has courses for pre-K – 8th grade, they have a sister site that is for 9th – 12th grades – www.allinonehighschool.com. The course list is pretty impressive. We’re not quite at that grade level yet, but I plan on using it when we are!

Conclusion:

In conclusion, Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool offers homeschooling families a comprehensive, cost-effective, and flexible curriculum. With its self-paced lessons, Christian perspective, and online accessibility, it caters to a wide range of educational needs and preferences. While it may have some limitations, such as the lack of advanced options and limited teacher support, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks for many families. Overall, Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool is a valuable resource that empowers parents to provide their children with a quality education from the comfort of home.
